Blogging assignment #1 - "The unthinkable"

"What’s produced the aeroplane is not so much a desire to fly as a rebellion against the tyranny of time and space.” (p.14)

tyr·an·ny
–noun, plural -nies.
1. arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority.

Throughout history, boundries have been drawn, rules have been created and we have been taught to listen and to follow. Stay there! sit quiet! however, as a child we as the question "why do such a thing? why stay quite when we have a voice to be heard? I want to do it my way!" Us as human beings are born to rebell, born to cross those boundries and push the human standard to something new and exciting. Moreover I completely agree with Mr. Frye in way's were we both believe:
In order to achieve greatness one must do the unthinkable.

  1. I agree with you when your talking about the restrictions placed on us by authority. I think that Frye extends his argument to the natural world saying that it is a natural humna instinct to try and fight the boundaries placed on us by the laws of physics.

  2. This was very well done Katya but I tend to disagree with you on just one part, where you are talking about boundraries. I believe that Northrop Frye is trying to say that we do things to benifit our selves not to say we can fly but to be more efficient. On the other hand your writing was convincing and excellently written. Well done.
