assignment #1

When i first read the line “One person by himself s not a complete human being…” (p.6)
Frye means in my opinion that behind every successful person there is something there either it is a mentor a book or just an event that as impacted that persons life. I do agree i think that people are only themselves because of events that have taken place in their lives and that is what shaped them into who they are today

  1. I disagree, I think this quote is trying to explain to us that one person can't be a human being if their is no influence from other people around them. A person cannot contribute to society without having the help and support of others.

  2. I agree with both of you because you need all of the things both of you mentioned (mentor, book, influence from other people around you that aren't a mentor) in order to contribute to society and be human. It's like the quote "If a tree falls in a forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" You need influences and people around you in order for it to go noticed.

  4. I completly agree with Erica, Kristine, and Evan towards this quote. It is interesting to see how you both (Evan and Kristine) perceived the same quote in such different ways. I found it interesting that Evan's perception of the quote was more Psychological; while Kristine's was more Sociological.

  5. I tend to disaggree with all four of them,(Kristine, Evan, Erica, and Steven)because I believe the quote is saying that in order to live life you need someone to live it with and enjoy all the "ups and downs" of life. Also, that Northrop Frye is scared of not getting his voice heard, after he has passed, so the more people he can effect the greater his thoughs become known by others and he never dies.

  6. I agree with the first four (Kristine, Evan, Erica, and Steven), learning and being influenced by other elements has a major effect on someone.

  7. I would have to agree with all of you. You all show the otherside of the quote. Even if this is an opinion based blog, it seems most of us (Zeka) agree around the same topic.
